A Little bit of culture
Here are a few helpful hints to help you navigate the tican lifestyle:
1. "Tica" = the name that Costa Ricans give themselves. Short for "costarricense" in Spanish, which translates to "Costa Rican".
2. "Pura Vida" = a very common staying among ticans. Literally it translates to "Pure Life," but it conveys the message of relaxing, enjoying life, having fun, and living to the fullest. Basically, it is the slogan of Costa Rica!
3. "Soda" - a small, family owned restaurant that serves typical Costa Rican food.
4. "Arroz con Pescado, Pollo, Camarones, etc." - a typical Costa Rican dish of seasoned rice mixed with fish, chicken, shrimp, or any other kind of meat offered, depending on the restaurant. Almost all typical restaurants offer this as an option, and it is very delicious but also very filling! It is a TON of rice!!
